A half-mile stretch of state Highway 84 between Portola and Tripps roads has reopened after being closed earlier today (Jan. 22) due to a large trees that fell in the road, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The stretch had been closed since 8:15 a.m. while Caltrans crews removed the tree, according to Sgt. Jeff Kearnan of the Sheriff's Office. The highway was reopened at 3:45 p.m.

The tree pulled down power lines, which heightened safety concerns and brought Pacific Gas & Electric Corp. to the scene.
