Basketball: M-A frosh-soph girls win two big ones

The Menlo-Atherton frosh/soph girls' basketball team solidified its hold on second place in the Peninsula Athletic League this past week.

The week began with a tough challenge from Aragon. Tied at halftime, the Bears came out strong in the second half to come away with a 34-25 win. The Bears were led by captain Lauren Diller, who scored 9 points, and Erin LaPorte, who scored 8. The other team captain, Courtnie Roache, had strong work on the boards and 9 rebounds.

On Friday, the Bears faced a tough, physical Burlingame team and trailed 20-13 at the half. Playing with fierce determination on defense, the Bears outscored Burlingame 12-2 in the third quarter to take a 3-point lead. In the fourth quarter, the Bears continued their strong play and came away with a 38-29 win.

Siena Roat-Shumway led the Bears with 13 points, including three of four from 3-point range and Lauren Diller continued her strong play with 8 points. Seini Moimoi led the Bears on the boards with 10 rebounds.

With two games remaining, the Frosh/Soph Girls' record is now 6-2 in the PAL & 14-8 overall.
