Report of mountain lion in Emerald Hills

 

Someone reported seeing a mountain lion around 6:35 p.m. Thursday at Summit Way near the 500 block of California Way in Emerald Hills, according to the San Mateo County authorities.

The lion was in the grass close to a water tower and the Easter Bowl area, authorities said.

They offered these tips:

■ If you see a mountain lion DO NOT APPROACH IT, especially one that is feeding or with kittens. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.

■ Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active — at dawn, dusk, and at night.

■ Keep a close watch on small children.

■ If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run. Instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms. Throw rocks or other objects.

■ Pick up small children.
