Police arrest suspected gang member

Menlo Park police arrested a 28-year-old suspected gang member Thursday morning after serving a search warrant and finding weapons and drugs in his East Palo Alto home, a sergeant said.

Authorities had been investigating Freddrick James Smith for a month before the search warrant was executed at about 7 a.m. in the 2400 block of Gonzaga Street, Menlo Park police Sgt. Jaime Romero said.

At his home, police found a handgun, a stun gun, narcotics, a bulletproof vest, and other items used to sell illegal drugs, according to Sgt. Romero.

Mr. Smith was arrested on suspicion of numerous felony charges, including possession of controlled substances, sales of controlled substances, possession of a handgun while being in possession of controlled substances, and being an active participate in an active street gang, Sgt. Romero said.
