Thursday: Solar-powered gardening equipment

A gardener's truck mounted with solar panels will be on display at Burgess Park in Menlo Park at 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, as an Earth Day demonstration of zero-emission gardening techniques.

Solar panels on the truck provide the energy to power mowers, leaf blowers, hedge trimmers, and other gardening equipment, the group said.

The Bay Area Gardeners' Association is sponsoring the demonstration. The group formed in 1999 to oppose Menlo Park's ban on gasoline leaf blowers, which was later overturned by voters.

The group said in a press release that it is inviting the five people who sat on the City Council when the ban was enacted to watch the demonstration.
