Thursday: Martha Kanter speaks in Menlo Park


U.S. Under Secretary of Education Martha Kanter will address educators, community members, philanthropists and others attending Aim High's Accelerating American Achievement breakfast meeting at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, May 27, in Menlo Park.

The event will start at 8:35 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at 1100 Marsh Road.

Aim High is an intensive academic summer program for middle school students in the Bay Area with 12 sites serving more than 1,000 students in 2010, its 25th summer.

Students typically begin after fifth or sixth grade and participate for three or four summers. Ms. Kanter will discuss the importance of high expectations for students and innovative ways to prepare and motivate students to pursue a college education.
