San Mateo County Fair opens


The San Mateo County Fair will take place from Saturday, June 12, through Sunday, June 20, at the San Mateo Events Center at 2495 South Delaware St. in San Mateo.

The fair opens everyday at noon, and closes at 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and at 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

Fair admission prices are $10 for adults, $8 for kids 6-12 and for anyone 62 and up, and free for kids 5 and under. Family packs are offered for $27. Entrance to the carnival is $30 for everyone over 5. You can save $2 on the fair, $8 on the family pack, and $9 on the carnival by buying a pre-sale ticket, which is offered until Friday, June 11.

Among the events:

● Watch pigs race for the chance to win Oreo cookies in the Hambone Express Pig Races, which will be held five times -- at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m., 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. -- on Saturday, June 12, and Sunday, June 13. The race will be located on the Melody Revelry Stage.

● Hypnotist Steve Bayner will perform on the Plaza Revelry Stage at 6 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on June 12 and June 18-19. He will also perform at 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. every day from June 13 to June 17, and at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on June 20.

● The Shane Dwight Band, a House of Blues group, will play on the Brews and Blues Stage at 6 and 8:30 p.m. from June 13-17, at 6 and 9 p.m. from June 18-19, and at 6 and 8:30 p.m. on June 20. Our Boys Steel Band, a reggae band who has performed at the fair for more than 10 years, will also be back this year and will perform throughout the event.
