East Palo Alto man dies in Skyline Blvd. crash

Car spotted by motorist who stopped to take pictures and spotted wrecked vehicle down an embankment

Gonzalo Martinez-Hernandez, 50, of East Palo Alto was found dead Sunday morning in the back seat of a car down an embankment off Skyline Boulevard south of Highway 92, according to the San Mateo County Coroner's Office and California Highway Patrol.

Officers said there were no immediate signs of foul play and the death is being handled as an accident.

Authorities responded to a call at around 9 a.m. from a motorist who stopped to take pictures next to state Route 35, about a mile south of state Route 92, and saw a possible vehicle about 80 feet down an embankment, Redwood City CHP spokesman Art Montiel said.

When they arrived at the vehicle, authorities discovered the body of a man in the back seat of the car, Montiel said.

There were no obvious signs of foul play, so authorities are handling the incident as a collision at this time.
