The Portola Valley Town Council recognized George Mader Wednesday, June 23, for his 45-year career as town planner.

While Mr. Mader is retiring, he will continue to be involved with town planning "at a reduced level," he said in prepared remarks.

The council welcomed Portola Valley's Assistant Town Planner Tom Vlasic as the new town planner. Mr. Vlasic has been working at Mr. Mader's side for some 38 years.

"Do you want to come up and shake my hand?" Councilman Ted Driscoll asked after announcing Mr. Vlasic's appointment, to the amusement of the small gathering of well wishers there to witness Mr. Mader's announcement.
