Corte Madera School graduates head on to high school

Seventy eighth-graders in Corte Madera School's Class of 2010 graduated from the middle school and the Portola Valley School District on June 13, during a traditional ceremony in the school's multi-purpose room.

The school band of sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders played the processional, "Pomp and Circumstance," under the direction of band teacher Jason Braun.

Student body co-presidents Kelly Moran and Matt Myers led the pledge of allegiance and welcomed students, families, teachers and guests.

Principal Carol Piraino spoke, then a trio of eighth-graders, chosen by their classmates, presented speeches they had written.

Roger Romani's speech was "Diversity"; Forrest Sill's, "Hop on Top with Corte Madera Teachers"; and Alexandra Vlassova's, "Mistakes."

Classmates Kai Banks and Alexandra Vlassova sang a duet, "Pulchinello" by H.A. VanderCook.

Allison Harman and Kelly Willard, student council co-vice-presidents, presented the class gift to the school a black Panther statue and a popcorn machine.

Principal Piraino presented the diplomas. An outdoor reception, hosted by the sixth-grade parents, was held after the ceremony.

The graduates celebrated earlier June 10 at Grad Night, planned by their parents at Portola Valley Town Center.
