The Atherton City Council will consider Wednesday a resolution putting the town government on record as opposing the California high-speed rail project as currently configured.

The stated reasons for the council’s opposition include “heavy criticism” of the agency running the project, overly optimistic sources of funding for the project, and rising costs.

The agenda includes a multi-page letter to the California Congressional delegation and the Federal Railroad Administration.

The council meets at 7 p.m. in the council chambers at 94 Ashfield Road in Atherton.

  1. Monkey See, Monkey Do! In this case the City of Orange and the City of Atherton. Good luck, the project already has lots of momentum and stopping it will be one heck of a feat.

  2. Got news for you “dream on”, people are starting to wake up to the load of BS they were sold for HSR. Many that voted for it are now wishing they hadn’t, and wishing they could take their vote back. They are realizing what they were sold was a total crock and a boondoggle.
