Tuesday: Menlo School opens athletic center

Opening ceremonies will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, for Menlo School's new 54,000-square-foot athletic center.

The bi-level center will house the basketball and volleyball teams and provide fitness and training rooms. Public tours will be held beginning at 5 p.m.

The center features two courts, allowing the middle school and high school to run events at the same time. The girls' volleyball team will be the first to use the courts with its home opener against San Mateo High School in a non-league match on Sept. 9.

On the upper level, there will be a performance room for using weights, a fitness room with cardiovascular equipment, and a training room for helping students recover from injuries.

Menlo School, a college preparatory private school, is located at 50 Valparaiso Ave. in Atherton.
