Menlo Park welcomes new chief

Although you wouldn't know it from the city's website, Menlo Park's new police chief, Bryan Roberts, started work as expected on Tuesday (Sept. 7).

He arrived after serving as a commander since 2006 in the Citrus Heights police department in Sacramento County.

Chief Roberts replaced Bruce Goitia, who retired June 1. According to the city, he emerged as the front-runner in a pool of more than 30 candidates across the United States.

He was caught up in meetings on Thursday, no doubt getting acquainted with the Menlo Park police department, but The Almanac will have a more in-depth look at the new chief tomorrow.
