Pool reporter Carol Lee of Politico magazine posted this report at 6:39 p.m. Pacific time (POTUS stands for president of the United States):
Oct. 21, 2010
President Obama left the Westin hotel near the airport at 4:39 p.m. after his meeting with Steve Jobs. POTUS is riding around in an SUV, not a limo, in San Francisco this evening.
After a 20-minute ride south on an empty Highway 280, the motorcade encountered some of the usual onlookers, and a group of protesters, along the residential streets.
One man held a sign above his head that said "GET EQUAL Repeal Don't Ask, Don't Tell"
Further down the road, the motorcade faced dozens of protesters as it as it made a right turn onto the street leading to the fundraiser POTUS is attending. They were gathered at a distance but held up a gigantic sign featuring mug shots of POTUS with a Hitler mustache and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. It was impossible to miss. POTUS and Pelosi's images were in the middle of the sign, with "Hello FDR Recovery" on one side, and :Goodbye Wall Street Traitors" on the other.
Other signs included "The Obamanator kills Jobs, kills prosperity, kills hopes"
"Meg 2010" for Meg Whitman, the Republican gubernatorial candidate; and another sign for Carly Fiorina, the Republican challenging Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer.
At 5:09 p.m. POTUS arrived at the home of Anita Yu and Steve Westly in Atherton, Calif., where he'll do a photo receiving line here to raise money for District Attorney Kamala Harris, who is running for attorney general in California. The grip-and-grin is closed press.
POTUS will then attend two DNC fundraisers.
Info on those, from a Democratic Party official:
The first DNC fundraiser dinner is also at the home of Anita Yu and Steve Westly (no press coverage).
The second is at the home of Marissa Mayer and Zachary Bogue in Palo Alto.
50 people will be at each event. The price of admission is up to $30,400 per person.
The events are expected to raise in total about $1.8 million for the DNC.
Pool is holding before heading to the 2nd home, where POTUS will deliver remarks.
