Deputies from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office apprehended two juveniles who were carrying an air rifle on Sunday, Nov. 14, after two motorcyclists called 911 to say that they had been shot and injured while riding on Skyline Boulevard in unincorporated Woodside, authorities said.
One motorcyclist had been shot in the right hand with a metal pellet that traveled "completely through her right hand ring finger as well as the thick leather glove she was wearing," said Lt. Ray Lunny of the Sheriff's Office. The woman's husband took her to the hospital, Lt. Lunny said.
The second victim was shot in the knee and taken by medics to San Mateo County General Hospital, Lt. Lunny said.
Deputies charged one of the youths, now in custody, with assault with a deadly weapon, shooting at an inhabited motor vehicle and projecting an object at a vehicle to cause great bodily injury.
The other youth was taken to San Mateo County General Hospital on a 72-hour mental evaluation hold after having made "several suicidal statements because he was caught committing this crime," Lt. Lunny said.
The 911 call elicited a response of six deputies, including a K9 unit. A search of the area turned up the two juveniles in the trees along the east side of Skyline just north of the 1300 block.
