Friday: Candidate seminar on running for county supervisor

Potential candidates for the vacant seat on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors can attend a free two-hour seminar at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 7, at the San Mateo County Elections Office at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo. The seminar is open to the public.

A mail-in-ballot special election is set for May 3 to fill the board seat vacated by former supervisor Mark Church, who was elected in November as assessor, county clerk, recorder and chief elections officer.

The term of the board seat expires in January 2013, according to the elections office.

The candidate filing period opens at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 10, and ends at 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4.

To reserve a seat at the seminar, contact Candidate Filing Officer Megan Asmus at 312-5293 or at with your name, the office you're seeking, and the number of people who will accompanying you.

Everyone attending the seminar is given a bound copy of a 50-page candidate's guide, which is also available on online.
