4.1-magnitude quake rattles Bay Area Friday

 

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 struck east of San Jose Friday afternoon and could be felt throughout much of the Bay Area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake was reported at 4:10 p.m. in an area west of U.S. Highway 101, near San Felipe Road.

The quake had a depth of 4.4 miles, the USGS reported.

It appeared to be in the Calaveras fault zone. Click here for a map for faultlines.

The temblor was followed by a few aftershocks, including one with a magnitude of 2.6, the USGS reported.
