Ahmad Sheikholeslami, director of facility planning and construction for the Menlo Park City School District, issued an update Saturday (Jan. 22) on the rebuild of the Hillview Middle School campus.

Here is his report:

“Construction for the new Hillview Middle School began in the summer of 2010 with relocation of classroom portables, clearing of the new building site, building pad preparation, and extensive utility work in preparation of the new facilities.

“The District has installed new sewer, water, fire water, power, gas, and storm drain utilities for the new school.

“Currently, Overaa Construction is continuing with utility work and construction of the roadways around the new school. Overaa Construction has been selected as the Lease-Leaseback contractor to develop the new Hillview Middle School. The District is in the process of finalizing its agreement with Overaa once final State approval has been achieved.

“The Division of the State Architect is in the final stages of approving the building plans and the District expects to be fully engaged in construction activities by February 2011.

“Overaa Construction is mobilizing onto the site, continuing with utility installation and construction of the parking lot and roadway. Next week, the contractor will be grading for the new parking lots, installing base rock, compacting and placing asphalt. Following that, they will begin forming and pouring concrete curbs.

“The contractor will then construct the building foundations, structural steel erection and then will begin to close the building exterior and install the roofing.

“The building construction is scheduled for completion and occupancy for the start of the 2012-2013 school year. The existing school will be demolished in the summer of 2012. The new synthetic field, landscaping, and site work is anticipated to be completed by December 2012.
