Filing period opens for write-ins for supes race

The filing period opens Monday, March 7, for write-in candidates in the May 3 election for the District 1 San Mateo County Board of Supervisors seat.

The seat was vacated by March Church after he was elected county assessor/clerk/election official.

The filing period closes at 5 p.m. Tuesday, April 19.

Those interested in becoming write-in candidates will first have to file a statement, detailing their personal information and desired position, and then gather 20 signatures of registered voters in the county.

Write-in candidates must be registered voters residing in the district for which they are seeking office.

Nomination documents can be obtained from the election's office, located at 40 Tower Road in San Mateo.
