Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg buys historic Palo Alto home

Crescent Park house is the first for Facebook CEO since he arrived in 2004

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has reportedly purchased a historic home in Palo Alto that was once owned by a Palo Alto pioneer.

Zuckerberg, 26, previously lived in a rental home in Palo Alto's College Terrace neighborhood. His new home is located in the 1400 block of Edgewood Drive in Crescent Park, according to public documents.

The 5,617-square-foot house was purchased on March 16 for $7 million, according to public records.

It is recorded in Santa Clara County Assessor's Office records and by the County Clerk-Recorder as being purchased by 1456 Edgewood Holdings LLC, which is registered by Tom Van Loben Sels, according to the the California Secretary of State.

Van Loben Sels is a partner at Apercen Partners LLC, a Palo Alto tax-consulting firm specializing in venture, hedge, and private-equity partners, entrepreneurs, and corporate executives.

The home is not under Zuckerberg's name, but it has been reported by the San Jose Mercury News that Zuckerberg has purchased the home.

San Francisco physician and Palo Alto pioneer Dr. William A. Newell originally built the home in 1866 as a Victorian cottage. Only the Juana Briones house retains older elements, according to a history of the property.

In 1906, Dr. Alexander McIntyre rebuilt the home using original materials from the then-dilapidated house, which had been empty for 15 years after the Newells' deaths. Then-State Senator and Assemblyman Marshall Black purchased the home in 1909.

The home has been remodeled and expanded through the years and now contains 13 rooms: five bedrooms and five full bathrooms with two half baths on a 17,117-square-foot lot. The two-story home was restored in 2007, according to sales information by Alain Pinel Realtor Sherry Bucolo.

The house is set back from the street and is surrounded by a brick wall for privacy. There is a pool, banquet-scale formal dining room, sun rooms, fireplaces, a large kitchen with an adjoining breakfast area open to a covered porch and a master-bedroom suite with a spa-inspired Carrara marble bath with heated floors.

Zuckerberg's new neighbors said they could not comment on the purchase of the home.

Zuckerberg & now Owen Van Natta his past 2nd in command at FB & that he ousted are in the same neighborhood.

Owen is moving to 369 churchill, palo alto. They will probably bump into each other at Whole foods & maybe Steve Jobs also. An impromptu conference to promote tech right there.

Owen's place is bigger but not as nice a location. 3 busy streets all around it. But with an acre of land maybe he can not hear the cars driving by.
