Mountain lion spotted in Portola Valley

 

A mountain lion was seen in the vicinity of the 400 block of Old Spanish Trail in Portola Valley at around 7:50 p.m. Friday night, county officials reported.

People are advised to not approach a mountain lion, especially one that is feeding or with offspring. Most mountain lions will try to avoid confrontation.

Other tips:

● Avoid hiking or jogging when mountain lions are most active —at dawn, dusk, and night.

● Keep a close watch on small children.

● If you encounter a mountain lion, do not run; instead, face the animal, make noise and try to look bigger by waving your arms; throw rocks or other objects.

● Pick up small children.
