Woman, 22, dies in crash during brief chase

 

A 22-year-old woman died and a 25-year-old woman was injured in a solo-vehicle crash during a brief police chase in East Palo Alto late Friday night, police said.

Officers said they saw a vehicle driving recklessly at Pulgas Avenue and Camellia Drive at around 10:30 p.m.

Police said the officers attempted to stop the vehicle but the car would not yield and continued to speed in what appeared to be an attempt to evade the police.

A short chase ended when the vehicle crashed at the intersection of Pulgas Avenue and East Bayshore Road, police said.

The driver, a 25-year-old woman, was ejected from the vehicle and was hospitalized with serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger, a 22-year-old woman from East Palo Alto, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
