Man dies, girl injured in Menlo Park crash

Newark man, 78, killed in Tuesday collision

A man died and a girl was injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Menlo Park Tuesday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A 78-year-old Newark man was driving a green 1994 Pontiac sedan on the westbound Marsh Road on-ramp to U.S. Highway 101 at around 9:40 p.m. CHP officials said the man was driving at high speeds when he lost control of the car and spun into southbound traffic. He collided with multiple vehicles and crashed into the center divider.

CHP officials said several drivers tried to avoid colliding with the Pontiac but were unable to avoid it. The man suffered serious internal injuries during the crash and later suffered cardiac arrest and succumbed to his injuries, CHP officials said.

A 10-year-old girl who was a passenger in a 2005 GMC pickup truck suffered minor injuries in the collision.
