Today: Atherton meets on outsourcing, layoffs

 

The Atherton City Council will meet in closed session Tuesday, July 12, to discuss matters related to the possible layoff of 12 employees and the outsourcing of town services.

The meeting is at 2 p.m., and begins with a chance for the public to comment on the issue.

Interim City Manager John Danielson could not be reached for clarification of the agenda item, which indicates that the session will be a conference with the town's labor negotiators to discuss matters involving the union, Teamsters Local Union 856, that represents the employees who were given pink slips in May.

The town sought and has received bids from private firms offering to provide the town's public works and building inspection/plan checking services.

The town earlier set Friday, July 15, as the effective date for the layoffs.

The meeting will be in the Council Chambers, 94 Ashfield Road, in the Town Center.
