Google buys Menlo Park's The Dealmap

A Menlo Park company just joined the Google family on Aug. 2.

The Dealmap, which opened in May 2010 and aggregates local discounts, sold to Google for an undisclosed amount of money months after the online search engine giant tried and failed to buy a similar business, Groupon.

"We're passionate about helping people save money while having great local experiences, and in Google we've found the perfect partner that shares this passion, as well as our vision and strategy," The Dealmap said in a statement on its website.

It claims more than 2 million users and earned a spot in the Wall Street Journal's "Top 10 Apps of 2010."
