Girl, 7, killed in East Palo Alto crash

Two deaths within two blocks shake residents

A 7-year-old girl was killed this morning, the second fatality within a two-block area on Bay Road in East Palo Alto.

The Cesar Chavez Elementary School student was walking to the school with her mother and two siblings when she was struck in the crosswalk at Bay Road and Gloria Way, police said.

The driver was a longtime teacher at the school and a neighborhood resident, local residents said.

The accident was the second within three hours. A motorcyclist was killed in a head-on crash two blocks away at University Avenue and Bay Road by a driver who was fleeing police and headed east in the westbound lane at about 5:30 a.m.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
