Menlo College men remain unbeaten in Cal Pac soccer

Ricardo Urruela and Alex Vukic each scored in the first half and the Menlo College men's soccer team remained undefeated in Cal Pac Conference play with a 2-0 victory over visiting Cal State Maritime on Tuesday.

The Oaks (4-0, 7-3-1) host unbeaten Holy Names in a conference showdown Saturday at 3 p.m.

Urruela received a pass from junior Eric Angell and fired it into the upper left hand corner, just inside the post, from outside the box.

"I have been working hard in practice and I've been getting that mentality of trying to scoring in every game," Urruela said. "I saw the opportunity to drop back a little bit, got the pass from Eric and just shot it. I didn't think twice."

Urruela has four goals in his last three games. Vukic scored his third goal in as many games a few minutes later, heading a ball set up by freshman Guisseppe Frattaroli.

Menlo allowed the Keelhaulers (3-2 in Cal Pac play) just six total shots, while the Oaks took 33 of their own.

"We still have room to grow," Menlo coach Mike Keller said. "We have developed a lot since the beginning of the season but have not topped out. There's no doubt that it's a big game, but we usually come to play in big games."

Women's soccer

Menlo College freshman Steffany Dudley earned Cal Pac Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors after scoring a total of three goals during a week in which the Oaks went 1-0-1.

It's the second weekly honor for Dudley, who is among the national leaders oin goals per match and shots per match.

Menlo (1-1, 3-8-2) hosts Holy Names in a conference match Saturday at 1 p.m.
