Trio of teens try to break into home

Redwood City resident fights, detains suspect

Three teenagers who entered a Redwood City home through the backyard were arrested after a confrontation with a 34-year-old man at the home Thursday morning, police said.

Two 17-year-old Redwood City boys and a 19-year-old also from Redwood City knocked on the front door around 11:45 a.m. in the 3200 block of Hoover Street, according to police.

The resident did not answer the door or respond to the knocking. The three suspects then entered the yard, forced open the back door, and entered the home, police said.

The resident confronted the suspects and got into a physical fight with the 19-year-old, whom the resident was able to detain as the two juveniles ran off. The victim then called police.

Officers responded to the area and took Alejandro Cota-Soleto, 19, into custody inside the victim's house and began searching for the other two boys. They located one of the boys less than a quarter-mile away in the 3200 block of Rolison Road, police said.

The last boy was found and taken into custody at his house in the 3200 block of Rolison Road at 5 p.m., police said.

The resident was not injured during the break-in and subsequent fight, police said.

Cota-Soleto was booked into San Mateo County Jail on suspicion of residential burglary. The two boys were booked into the San Mateo County Juvenile Detention Center on the same charge.
