Woman shot after 'horsing around' with boyfriend

Woman taken to hospital following Sunday night shooting

A man was arrested Monday for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for being in violation of his probation after allegedly accidentally shooting his girlfriend in her living room in East Palo Alto on Sunday night.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the apartment on Newell Court shortly before 10 p.m.

When police arrived they saw that 18-year-old Secret Snowden had been shot. Snowden and her boyfriend, 20-year-old Lamont Coleman, were "horsing around in Snowden's living room," police said in a press release.

Coleman removed his loaded handgun and put it on his lap. The gun negligently discharged and a single bullet struck Snowden, police said. Snowden was taken to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

Coleman, at the request of police, went to the department to meet with investigators Monday. He was booked into the San Mateo County jail.
