Saturday: Public invited to watch artists paint at Allied Arts


About 20 artists have been selected to join with the artists of the Portola Art Gallery to paint in the gardens of the Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 5.

The public is invited to watch the artists at work and stay for the afternoon exhibit, reception and awards presentation. The program runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Artists have been invited to bring a dry painting to hang at the beginning of the day. In the afternoon, the artists will add their wet paintings to the display. All displayed works will be available for sale.

Selected artists (and their cities of residence) are: Andrew Ballantyne (San Jose), Edwin Bertolet (Redwood City), Cathy Boyer (San Mateo), Erin Tajime Castelan (Palo Alto), Inna Cherneykina (Foster City), Catherine Fasciato (Concord), Denny Holland (Daly City), Carol Houghton (Mountain View), Jake Karmendy (Belmont), Susan Brott Lawson (Mountain View), Sergio Lopez (Santa Rosa), Mark Mertens (Castro Valley), Pat Park (Moss Beach), Sharon Chan Parodi (San Mateo), Shirley Prausa (Palo Alto), Julia Minger Seelos (Redwood City), Kathy Sharpe (Carmel), Lesley Underwood (San Jose), Susan Vandiver (Half Moon Bay), Pat Weiss (Stanford), Karen White (Palo Alto), David Yapp (San Francisco) and Tonya Zenin (Cupertino).

Participating Portola Art Gallery artists are: Steve Curl, Marsha Heimbecker, Carolyn Jones, Mark Monsarrat, Jared Sines, Decker Walker, Alice Weil and Barbara von Haunalter.

The event, "Paint Allied Arts 2011," is the third plein air "paint-out" and exhibit sponsored by the Portola Art Gallery, which is based at Allied Arts Guild, 75 Arbor Road in Menlo Park.
