Hazele Jelich, a member of a Portola Valley pioneer family who died Oct. 17 at age 96, was the gatekeeper at Searsville Lake Recreation Park in the early 1940s.

Searsville Lake is now a part of Stanford's Jasper Ridge Biological Preserve and open to the public by docent tour.
