Hosting fellow Division 1 rival Redwood City on Sunday, Sept. 16, the M-A Vikings had a great weekend of competition and fun.

With the renovated, beautiful new turf football field at M-A High School drawing rave reviews, the Vikings and Jr 49ers met for games in five age/weight classifications.

First, Viking Cheer shares their news of their recent competition.

Viking Cheer News: The M-A Viking cheer teams competed at the Peninsula Pop Warner Jamboree in Morgan Hill on Sept. 8. The young Mitey Mites squad charmed the crowd with their routine while the Jr Pee Wee squad received high praises from the judges as a result of their performance. Viking Cheer competes in several competitions as well as cheering during all Viking football games. Their next competition is at Shoreline Amphitheater in October.

Game 1: Tiny Mites (ages 5-7, instructional, non-scorekeeping level)

The Viking Tiny Mites met the Jr 49ers in the opening game of the day, with both teams scoring as our youngest Vikings continue to learn the great game of football. The Tiny Mites are a highlight of any Pop Warner weekend — a really fun level of play!

Game 2: Mitey Mites (ages 8-9, instructional level)

The Viking Mitey Mites cruised to their third straight victory with solid performances on both sides of the ball. Posting a 36-6 victory over the Jr 49ers, the Mitey Mites continue their development with strong fundamental technique that will serve them well for many games to come.

Game 3: Junior PeeWees (ages 9-11)

The Viking JPW’s ran into a strong Jr 49er team. Despite a strong first half, the JPW’s lost 34-6.

Game 4:  PeeWee’s (ages 10-12)

In possibly the hardest fought contest of the day, the Viking PeeWees showed considerable grit and determination against a strong opponent. The Vikings had their 2 game win streak stopped 22-0, but hope to resume their winning ways this week.

Game 5: Junior Midgets (ages 11-13)

This year’s Junior Midgets, who represented the Pacific Northwest region in the 2011 Pop Warner Super Bowl, rolled to another convincing win, 32-0, over the Redwood City Jr 49ers. The team remains undefeated in regular season play over several seasons.

This weekend’s upcoming action takes your Menlo-Atherton Vikings south to meet the mighty Santa Clara Lions at Townsend field on Sunday. The Vikings return to M-A High on Sunday, Sept. 30, to host the Morgan Hill Raiders.
