Sports reporting usually identifies players on both sides of the line. Why is it that we are only reading about the players on the winning teams. I guarantee you unless the other team was scoreless, someone on the losing team did something and recognition is deserved. Interested parties might want to know who ran the ball over 80 yards to score first against the Menlo Knights. Knowing how the action played out makes for a much more interesting story.

If Menlo School isn't playing another local team, the writers aren't going to take up space mentioning schools outside of the paper's circulation area. Woodside is close, but still outside. Same reason why Carlmont or Sequoia aren't going to get mentioned. The local papers have their local areas and local teams and don't write about those out-of-area teams. The other factor is whether the local papers actually have someone there, or are just getting reports from school officials, etc. Not every game gets covered in person. In the "old" days, yes, but not now.
