Diane Sandhu, a member of the town's Audit/Finance Committee, has qualified for a spot on the November ballot in the race for a single seat on the Atherton City Council.
Rick DeGolia was the first to file. Three other residents have taken out candidate papers, and have until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, to file if they decide to run.
Ms. Sandhu and Mr. DeGolia applied to be appointed to the council last month, when the council hoped to agree on one of seven applicants to fill the seat left open by Jerry Carlson's resignation. When the council failed to reach consensus, it called for an election.
Residents who have pulled papers but not filed them are John Ruggeiro, Greg Conlon and Michael Stogner. They also had applied for appointment to the council last month.
