The Atherton Police Department is reminding residents to lock their vehicles and the doors and windows of their homes on the heels of a series of thefts and burglaries in the northwest area of town.

The crimes involved “suspicious circumstances, thefts or attempted thefts from unlocked vehicles, and residential burglaries where there (were) no signs of forced entry,” according to a police department bulletin. “Residents are asked to immediately report any suspicious persons or circumstances in their neighborhood to police,” it said.

“Residents are also reminded to keep their car windows rolled completely up and doors locked when their vehicles are unattended, and never leave valuables in plain view.”

The bulletin noted that many property crimes in Atherton “are crimes of opportunities related to unlocked vehicles and dwellings.”

More information can be obtained by calling the department’s non-emergency line at 688-6500.

  1. Of course swammy, there is no money in catching criminals, but there is big bucks in catching highly dangerous Atherton drivers. 5oo$ for a red light ticket for making a right turn safely on a red. Outrageous.

If you were hurting for money like most govt agencies, wouldn’t you go for the high price tickets with less risk of getting hurt? Makes sense.
