Saturday: Emergency training drill in Redwood City

To prepare for a train-related emergency, Caltrain and SamTrans, along with local public safety agencies, will conduct an emergency training exercise in Redwood City on Saturday, Nov. 2.

The drill will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the train tracks behind Costco on a rail spur not used for regular train service. During the exercise, police and fire vehicles will use lights and occasional sirens.

Traffic and train service will not be interupted, Caltrain promises. Onlookers will not be allowed in the drill area.

It would be nice if the authorities notified or included residents in the immediate area as they would be the first ones affected prior to first responders. Currently, communication is poor and there isn't a planned evacuation route nor destination in the event of a large tanker chemical spill, explosion, etc that could affect residents on both sides of the tracks. What if a chemical spill begins in RC and leaks poison through Atherton into Menlo Park?
