Menlo Park runner competes in endurance challenge

 

Gary Gellin of Menlo Park is taking part in the North Face Endurance Challenge Championships on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7-8, in the Golden Gate Recreation Area in San Francisco.

Gellin is participating in the 50-mile race, in which he placed ninth in 2012.

Founded in 2007, the Endurance Challenge Series is a two-day event featuring five trail racing events across the United States, culminating in the championships race in San Francisco.

Tim Sheeper a local resident, coach and father recently placed 4th in the Ultraman in Hawaii.

Covering a total distance of 320 miles (515 kilometers), on the Big Island of Hawaii, it requires that each participant complete a 6.2 mile (10 K) open ocean swim, a 261.4 mile (421 K) cross-country bike ride, and a 52.4 mile (84 K) ultra-marathon run.
