A study session to discuss the guiding principles of the Menlo Park City School District will be held Monday, April 21, with the public session beginning at noon.

A closed session for labor negotiations will precede the meeting, starting at 10 a.m. Both sessions will be held at the Teacher Educational Resource Center at the district’s office, located at 181 Encinal Ave. in Atherton.

School board president Joan Lambert said the board hopes to produce a document outlining the principles and then use it to help them modify the district’s strategic plan.

Also on Monday, at 6 p.m. at the resource center, the district will hold a community forum on the “Local Control Funding Formula,” the new school funding model approved by the state in 2013 for all California public schools. A second community forum will be held on April 28 at 5 p.m.

The new model requires every school district to create an accountability plan and budget by July 1.

The school board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 23, starting at 6 p.m. at the district office.

Agendas for board meetings are available online.

  1. An honest set of principles would consist of:

    – minimize accountability for employees.
    – maximize compensation for same, especially in ways that are not obvious to the lightly informed public (ie, large benefits, deferred pensions)
    – educate the children to the extent that it does not interfere with the first two principles.
