Hassett seeks re-election to open space district board

Larry Hassett is running for another term on the governing board of the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District.

Mr. Hassett, the owner of Palo Alto Hardware, has served in the district's Ward 6 seat since 2000. Ward 6 includes Woodside, Menlo Park, Atherton, Portola Valley, and five other cities.

So far he is the only candidate to file in Ward 6. Brandon Lewke has taken out papers to run but has not yet filed. The filing deadline is Friday, Aug. 8.

Four of the seven board seats in the open space district are up for election in November. The district is divided into seven geographic wards, each represented by an elected official for a four-year term. Residents vote only for the candidates in their ward.

Mr. Hassett also owns Palo Alto Hardware Solar Division and Ocean Shore Hardware in Half Moon Bay. He has been involved in several community organizations, including Achieve, a school for autistic children, and the Palo Alto Recreation Foundation.
