With the Aug. 15 deadline fast approaching, the Menlo Park City Council will meet tonight (Aug. 6) to clarify who will write the ballot argument against the downtown/El Camino Real specific plan initiative.
Mayor Ray Mueller and Councilman Rich Cline would write the primary argument opposing the initiative, a rebuttal argument to any statement supporting the measure, and select signatories without further review by their colleagues, if the council approves the process tonight.
The initiative, put forth by grassroots coalition Save Menlo, was put on the Nov. 4 ballot by a unanimous vote of the council in July. The council had the choice of adopting the measure or submitting it to voters.
The Aug. 6 meeting starts at 6 p.m. in council chambers at the Civic Center at 701 Laurel St.
