A plumbing contractor damaged a one-inch natural gasline at a single-story home in Menlo Park this morning, a PG&E spokesman said.

PG&E received a call around 9 a.m. about the leak in the 700 block of San Benito Avenue and the first crew was at the scene by 9:20 a.m., PG&E spokesman Jason King said.

Crews stopped the flow of gas at 9:30 a.m. No one was injured and no evacuations were necessary, King said.

The contractor struck the pipe while digging at the residence, resulting in the rupture. King said the incident shows the importance of calling 811 to identify utilities in the area before digging.
