Menlo College volleyball signs top Wisconsin athlete

The Menlo College women's volleyball program received a commitment from Weyauwega-Fremont High (Wisconsin) senior Megan Young, who signed a letter of intent to play with the Oaks in the fall, coach Atlee (Hubbard) Frechette announced Monday.

Young, a 6-foot outside hitter/middle blocker, was a two-time All-Central Wisconsin Conference performer. A four-year starter, she helped her team to a pair of conference championships.

"I feel very fortunate to be able to coach someone like Megan," Frechette said. "She has so much versatility and athleticism in every position she plays, so I know she will contribute in big ways for our program."

As a junior, Young led the Indians with 204 kills and a .357 hitting percentage. This past fall, Young recorded 2.8 kills per set and a .318 hitting percentage.

Young, who also played opposite and had 1.7 digs a set, helped the Indians (11-0, 21-7 overall) win the conference title and reach the WIAA regional final.

Young, who also excelled in track and field, was equally impressive in the classroom where she earned a pair of all-conference academic awards and was on the academic honor roll for six semesters thus far.

She has earned numerous awards, including Most Improved Hitter, Freshman Athlete of the Year, Best Blocker and Best Hitter. Young is also a candidate for the National Honor Society.

"Megan is the kind of student-athlete that shows maturity beyond her years," Frechette said. "She has work and community experience that has helped her become a responsible and independent person."

Menlo has reached the national tournament in each of the past three seasons, the last two under Frechette, who has a 36-18 (19-3 in conference play) overall record.
