North Fair Oaks: Two arrested in connection with burglary

Two Redwood City residents were arrested Tuesday (Jan. 20) in connection with a series of crimes in North Fair Oaks, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

Roberto Diaz, 31, and Margarita Barragan, 29, were arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of stolen property, vandalism and conspiracy, the Sheriff's Office said.

Deputies responded at 8:06 a.m. Tuesday to the 600 block of 14th Avenue after receiving a call from a resident about a suspicious vehicle parked in his neighbor's yard and people in the neighbor's backyard.

The deputies determined the vehicle was reported stolen in San Mateo and located the suspects, later identified as Diaz and Barragan, in the backyard of the residence.

The suspects tried to flee on foot, but Ms. Barragan was apprehended after a short chase, deputies said.

Mr. Diaz was taken into custody after he was found hiding in a shed in a nearby backyard. Deputies said he refused to exit the shed, so a Redwood City police K-9 was sent in after him.

He was taken into custody after a brief struggle, sheriff's officials said.

Thank you to the Sheriff, the other police units and the alert neighbor. I appreciate the idea of my neighbor not "minding his business and making the call to 911. This is the way we can make our neighborhood secure and safe.
Thank again.

Your neighbor in the 700 block.
