The police department's deployment of two fulltime traffic officers in 2014 contributed to a 10 percent drop in collisions, according to Menlo Park city staff.

Enforcement was concentrated on school zones, with 19 deployments at Belle Haven Elementary, 15 at Willow Oaks Elementary, 37 at Oak Knoll Elementary, 13 at La Entrada Middle School, 17 at Hillview Middle School and five at Nativity School.

The two officers also conducted road safety education for students and parents.
