Hillview principal named interim superintendent

 

Erik Burmeister, principal of Hillview Middle School in Menlo Park, has been appointed temporary superintendent of the Menlo Park City School District during the "short term medical leave" of Superintendent Maurice Ghysels, the school board president, Maria Hilton, announced March 2.

"I know that the Board, staff and community all wish (Mr. Ghysels) a speedy recovery," she said.

In an email to parents on March 2, Mr. Burmeister said the appointment would not take his attention away from his role as Hillview principal.

"We anticipate that on the whole, my days will be spent at Hillview with periodic meetings taking me to the District Office," he said in the email. "During times when I am away from campus, Associate Principal Willy Haug is available to serve in my stead."
