Man sentenced for beating woman in Menlo Park

A 33-year-old Mountain View man, who pleaded no contest to beating a woman he had been dating, has been sentenced to one year in San Mateo County jail and three years of supervised probation, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Yishun Dong, an engineering graduate student at Stanford University, was also ordered to undergo 104 hours of counseling, perform 30 hours of community service, and pay restitution in an amount to be determined.

The attack took place in Menlo Park on July 19, 2014. He is prohibited from having any contact with the victim, who sustained a facial fracture during the assault that required surgery.

Mr. Dong is currently out of custody on a $50,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to surrender on June 13 to begin his jail sentence.
