Saturday, Sunday: Sunset Celebration Weekend likely to be the last

Two-day event features demonstrations, exhibits and seminars

What may be the last Sunset Celebration Weekend will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 6 and 7, at Sunset's headquarters on Willow Road near Middlefield Road in Menlo Park.

Embarcadero Capital Partner bought the 7-acre Sunset site last year from Time Inc., and Sunset said June 2 that it will move its headquarters to Jack London Square in Oakland.

The Sunset Celebration Weekend originated when the magazine hosted its 100th birthday celebration and proved to be so popular that it has become a yearly event.

While future plans may be up in the air, this year's celebration promises two activity-packed days, from the presentation of the new backyard cottage exhibit to a lineup of celebrity chefs. Chris Cosentino, Martin Yan, Joanne Weir, Craig Stoll and James Syhabout are among those who will give demonstrations on the cooking stage or in the outdoor garden during the weekend.

Visitors may wander from the home stage to the travel stage to the garden and outdoor living stage, where experts will share their knowledge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.

Tickets may be purchased on site for the popular wine and beer seminars. Cost per seminar is $15 per person; participants must be 21 or older.

Children's hands-on learning activities include painting terracotta garden pots and a "make your own trail mix" workshop.

General admission to Celebration Weekend is $35 at the door; $27 for seniors 60 years and older; and free for children 12 and under.

During event hours, parking will be available at Facebook headquarters at 1601 Willow Road, and at several lots surrounding the event grounds. Complimentary shuttles will be available.
