Atherton: Thieves target unlocked cars in Lindenwood

Thieves took items from three unlocked cars parked in driveways in Lindenwood during the night of June 7 or early morning July 8, Atherton police report.

Credit cards, purses and wallets were stolen from two unlocked vehicles on Larch Drive. On Acacia Drive, a wallet and other items were taken from an unlocked vehicle.

Police said surveillance video leads them to think the suspects may be driving a Lexus RX series SUV, either silver or light colored, with a roof rack and 5-spoke wheels. The suspects may be four Pacific Islanders, one male and three females, one with long black hair, police said.

To avoid such thefts, police advise people to:

● Lock doors and roll up windows, even when the vehicle is parked in the driveway.

● Do not keep keys, purses, wallets, electronics or any other valuable items inside of a parked vehicle.

● Turn on the alarm system.

● Make sure no valuables can be seen inside the vehicle.

Police urge people to report any suspicious activity to the Atherton Police Department by calling (650) 688-6500.

Seriously ?
"Credit cards, purses and wallets were stolen" from unlocked cars.
Or so that's what the police report said for insurance purposes...

What, no laptops or jewelry taken. Sloppy thieves.

If the cars had been locked the insurance claim would include smashed glass and paint scratches.
