Top local golfers shoot for U.S. Junior Amateur berths

 

Many of the top young golfers on the Peninsula will be touring the Stanford Golf Course on Monday with hopes of qualifying for the U.S. Junior Amateur Championships in July.

Hoping to advance to the national junior tournament July 20-25 at Colleton River Plantation in Bluffton, S.C., include Max Ting of Atherton, Colt and Dakota McNealy of Portola Valley, John Foley of Los Altos Hills, William Hsieh of Atherton, Ahmed Ali of Palo Alto, Oliver Cho of Los Altos Hills, Henry Hughes of Palo Alto, Avi Khemani of Los Altos Hills, and Joonsung Ha of Palo Alto.

Most of the players faced each other during the high school season with Ting and Hsieh playing for Menlo School, Ali, Hughes and Ha for Paly, the McNealy brothers for Harker and Cho for Pinewood.

Qualifying tournaments already have been held around the country. From Stanford, only the low four individuals will advance to the championships.
