Portola Valley resident halts apparent burglary

A Portola Valley resident came home just in time to prevent an apparent burglary on Wednesday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

The resident returned to a home in the vicinity of Golden Oak Drive and observed a man behind the house.

When asked what he was doing, the man said he was looking for someone named Johnny and walked away.

While the resident was calling the Sheriff's Office, the man was picked up by another man who was driving an older, "boxy," gray or silver Honda-like vehicle and drove away.

A sheriff's deputy called to the scene discovered that the screen to the house's rear door and window had been pried off, but the house had not been entered.

maybe if we had those license plate readers, theose men might have been caught. They may be responsible for some of the other robberies in the area
